Barrow won by 85 runs
Barrow travelled to play Carillon on Tuesday evening in a friendly match, The visitors won the toss and batted first and posted a useful score. David Iliffe made his first 50 for the club batting really well and even breaking his bat! He borrowed a bat and continued on his merry way hitting some fine shots and playing with a real freedom. He was supported by skipper Tim Wilson who continued his good recent form with 40. Mark Smith chipped in with 18 Not Out and the Barrow lads had set a stiff target.
In reply the hosts struggled against some good Barrow bowling with pace bowler George Foster returning 2 for 20, left arm spinner Adam Morris 3 for 5 and Iliffe rounding off a fine game with 2 for 3. It was left to Charlie Neath with 1 for 6 and Jack Purvis with 1 for 5 to tidy up the innings.
A good all round performance and time spent in the middle by the batters and the bolwers getting some miles into the legs.

Sileby won the toss and batted first. Openers Sam Gale and Ashley Burnip both played very well putting on 84 for the first wicket. Gale was first to go for 39 to a good catch by Francis McParland off the excellent Tim Taylor and Burnip went next ball. Taylor was the pick of the Barrow attack with 2 for 9. Mark Smith and Tom Shipman both bowled very well. The final Sileby total of 124 for 2 appeared to be a decent score but achievable if Barrow batted well. In the field Barrow left a lot to be desired and a lot of hard work is needed. The good thing is that the lads know this and will work harder than ever to improve.
Barrow lost run machine Tim Taylor early to the excellent Leela Godhania who took 2 for 11 and was the pick of the Sileby attack. For the visitors skipper Tim Wilson made 32 and together with Tom Shipman, Mark Smith and David Iliffe who made 18 got the Barrow innings going. Of particular note were some fine boundaries by Wilson and Iliffe the former sending one ball out of the ground much to the delight of this team mates! It was left to George Foster, Nick Southwell and Francis McParland to get the visitors over the line. A final word for the Sileby skipper Ashley Burnip who bowled the death over and all but got his own side home, a good effort. A very good hard close game of cricket between two promising groups of cricketers.
The next match is bound to be as close and well contested.
Barrow Town v Bardon Hill 13th May 2009
Barrow Town 184 for 5 Wkts
Bardon Hill 102 for 6 Wkts
Barrow won by 82 runs
Barrow played their second friendly game of the week when they hosted the Coalville outfit on Wednesday at Nottingham Rd. On a cold damp evening Barrow won the toss and batted first. Openers Adam Morris and in form David Iliffe soon had the score board rattling along. Iliffe made 19 and Morris a promising 12. At the fall of their wickets skipper Tom Shipman was joined by Tim Wilson in a stand of 110 which saw Wilson retire on 51 and the excellent Shipman make his first 50 for the club with 50 retired. One shot of note was a huge six from Shipman that sailed out of the ground and went down the road to Quorn!! The ball was found.............evenutally!
In reply the vistors were never really up with the required rate. Kunal Lodhia bowled an excellent spell to return 1 for 9 and he was backed up by the equally excellent Ellliot Watts with 1 for 12 , Francis McParland with 1 for 13 and Aaron Watts with 1 for 12. These four players currently in the U13 squad are real prospects for the future of the club. Charlie Neath with 1 for 20, Adam Morris with 1 for 7 and Tim Wilson 1 for 4 saw that hosts to victory.
For Bardon a familiar name shone in a J Upton. This lad played a really good knock and is one to watch!!
