U11 Match Report

Friday June 19th 2009

Sileby Town: 274

Barrow Town: 244

Sileby won by 30 runs

On a cold and windy evening at Sileby, the U11 incrediballer’s skipper, Josh Booth, lost the toss and Barrow were asked to bat first. Opening pair Jamie Beck and Ben McMillan had mixed fortunes with their overs. Against some excellent bowling, they lost a couple of wickets in their first two overs, and then regained their batting form, to recover to 208 at the end of the fourth over. Liam Brown and Barney Wright were next up. The bowling attack struggled to keep the ball straight with the very strong wind. This combined with some clever running and only one wicket, they added 19 runs to the score. James Hunter and Harry Neath came in as third pair. The Sileby bowlers put in some good, straight and full deliveries with had this pair pinned to the crease, three wickets in the first two overs took a lot of getting back, and the score as they left the field was 225. Last pair, Josh and George Ashby strode out to the wicket, knowing that they needed some runs, to keep the team in the match. Again, the wind made bowling difficult for the Sileby attack, but they managed to take the score on to 244 at the end of the innings.

Josh and George opened the bowling for Barrow. Against a very strong batting pair, they bowled reasonably straight, but with some excellent batting, the Sileby opening batsmen took the score to 241. Some serious discussions on the field resulted in Harry and James taking the next four overs. Harry’s first over was a wicket maiden; James followed that with another wicket with the first ball of his first over. Harry’s second over was another wicket maiden, which left skipper Josh an easy decision about one of the bowlers that would get three overs. James took another wicket in his second over, and this Sileby pair left the field having reduced the total by 8 runs. An excellent spell of bowling. Jamie and Ben bowled a couple of very tidy overs to start with, and in Ben’s last over, he also took a wicket. With the score on 246, there was still a chance for the Barrow players to win the match. Barney took a wicket in his first over, and kept the batsmen to net -1 runs. Harry, with his third over, bowled well, but the Sileby batsmen seemed to wake up to the fact that they still needed to score runs. They continued to play well through the last two overs, and as George bowled his last delivery of his third over, Sileby sealed the win.

Sileby won the match, scorting 274 runs to Barrow’s 244.
