Junior Cricket

The club has a thriving junior section with teams from Under 10 to Under 17 level. The club was awarded ECB Focus Club status in recognition of its record in developing young players and has also attained ECB Clubmark which is a benchmark in good practice in youth cricket and club management.

The Under 10's start at around age 7 to 8 ideally. At this age they play Kwik cricket which is the soft ball version of the game taught in schools. At Under 11 a safety cricket ball is introduced call an Incrediball - it looks like a cricket ball but is not as hard and is designed to give youngsters a feel for the hard ball game without the risk of getting hit by a hard ball. Once youngsters are confident they are then progressed on to the hard ball game and the club runs and Under 11 hard ball side as well.

The Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 steadlily progress upto senior level with the club looking to stretch players wherever possible. So for example if an Under 13 is thought able to play at Under 15 level and wants to do so the club will encourage this.

All the club's coaches are CRB checked and have attained a ECB Coaching Award Level 1 as a minimum. A full programme of coaching both winter and summer is arranged and dates for this can be found in the junior section under Club News. The Diary on the home page also lists what is going on in terms of training, matches and other events.

The junior section is run by a sub group of the main committee and this is chaired by John Shipman who is a parent, coach and player!!

Look out for details of output from junior meeting under the Junior News section.

Finally if your youngster would like to try the game then get in touch with us via the website or call one of the age group caoches. Each age group has its own page.
