John Wilson
Head Youth Coach and Club Welfare Officer
John Wilson is a relative newcomer to the club and to the village. Having played cricket for many years in the Essex Leagues for Grays CC and Orsett and Thurrock CC he moved to Barrow upon Soar in 1993 when his job moved to Loughborough. A slow left arm bowler and middle order batsman he played 1st XI cricket but can remember when he was a young player starting out in senior cricket. He played for three seasons for Quorn CC before retiring. When son Tim started to show an interest in the game a chance meeting with now good friend John Upton lead to him becoming involved with the club. The club have supported John throughout his coaching career which has seen him attain the ECB Level 3 Head Coaching Award in 2009. Now he is to be found most evenings with the other coaches and volunteers helping young cricketers reach their potential and also enjoy the game playing for their club. John believes that what makes Barrow Town Cricket Club so special is the people who ensure the club runs as it does and also make sure that it retains its village feel whilst still striving for playing success on the field.
