1st XI Match Report

Barrow Town v Stoughton and Thurnby (Home) League 23rd May 2009

Barrow were back to winning ways with a maximum 24 points against Stoughton and Thurnby and made it three wins out of five to maintain a strong top four position. Winning the toss proved to be a vital factor as the visitors were put in and rattled up 29 runs in the first 5 overs but then lost 3 wickets for 1 run. Captain Tanataugoda 39 and Stephenson 65 added 96 the latter hitting 11 fours and a six. After a mix up in communication he was run out and again 3 wickets fell for very little addition to the score. The wickets were shared around between Pope who took a wicket, Wise who took 3 wickets, Modha 3 wickets backed up by excellent fielding by Kara and behind the stumps Avatar who took a couple of catches.

In reply Barrow posted 46 posted for the first wicket but then a flurry of wickets saw the home side slip to 79 for 4 but Pope made 80 who shared a fine stand of 102 for the fifth wicket with Kara who made 55. It was left to Modha to smash the winning boundaries. This win takes Barrow to 98 points in the Premier League ladder now and second place.
